Azul is a sideboard that combines contemporary aesthetics and materials with the classic mid-century roll-front cabinet. I have always been fascinated by roll-front doors, which led me to create this sideboard as my journeyman’s piece in carpentry. It’s is crafted from ash wood, featuring horizontally sliding solid wood slat tambour doors, which are glued to natural white linen fabric. For the handles, I designed a milled circular grip, with each half embedded into the doors - forming a complete circle when closed. One of my key design goals was to ensure that the sideboard not only holds a strong presence when closed but also transforms and provides functionality when opened.

That’s why I designed the doors to open as widely as possible, allowing the piece to function as an open shelving unit.

The name Azul comes from the blue-oiled interior.
